Overview
Apple Music introduced new required credit fields for audio upload deliveries, creating friction in an already complex upload flow. The goal of this project was to incorporate these new requirements while streamlining the overall experience to make uploading clearer, and less error-prone for creators.
Problem
The existing audio upload flow already had a lot of inputs and now we needed to add in 3 more. This would take an already overwhelming flow and make it longer and more daunting. Adding mandatory Apple Music credit fields risked increasing drop-off, confusion, and upload errors especially for independent artists unfamiliar with formal credit requirements.
How might we integrate the new required Apple Music fields into the upload flow while minimizing confusion and friction?
Goals
Seamlessly integrate new required Apple Music credit fields
Reduce user confusion and upload errors
Improve clarity, efficiency, and confidence throughout the flow
Maintain compliance without overwhelming users
Insights
I reviewed Fullstory sessions and drop-off data. Key insights included:
Inputs were grouped in an unintuitive way causing users to go back and forth
Lack of clarity as to what was required or not
Outcome
Creating a new section “Additional Artists & Credits” in the upload flow specifically for Credits. Along with the new section, the other credits were redistributed into the “Track Info” and “Metadata” sections in a more contextual and intuitive way.
Impact
The updated experience made the new requirements feel manageable rather than burdensome. Adding new fields while also refreezing the appearance made the change less abrasive. Overall the average time in the upload flow decreased approximately 8%.
